Design Philosophy

In Chinese, there is a saying: 功夫在诗外, meaning the craft is learned outside the poem. It reminds me that design begins with careful reading: not just of aesthetically pleasing interfaces, but of people, history, culture, and the systems shaping everyday behavior. My interest in modern Chinese and gender history, as well as writers like Eileen Chang, has taught me to look beyond dominant narratives and notice what or who may be missing.

A behavior is rarely just a usability issue; it can reflect access, language, habit, power, or an assumption embedded in the product itself. I think in systems, but I design for people.
